VOLUME 05, THE SOFTWARE

The tools.

Two pieces of software run the universe, the MediaStream Engine, a pure-Rust single-binary media server with zero FFmpeg dependency, and MSPlayer, a lightweight player in Standard and IPFS editions. Self-hosted, protocol-first, built for the intelligence era. Full documentation at msmp.resemble.media.

Questions about the software

FAQ / ENGINE · PLAYER · IPFS

Why "zero FFmpeg"?

The MediaStream Engine is a single Rust binary with no external codec stack. Every encode, stream, relay, and publish runs in one process, no FFmpeg, no shared-library trees, no version drift between environments. Deploy once, and the engine is the entire toolchain.

What is MSPlayer-IPFS?

A peer-to-peer playback edition of MSPlayer. Instead of fetching from a single origin, playback shares an msipfs:cID string (magnet-style) and every byte is verified against the IPFS network before it renders. If a gateway fails, the player hunts another; if AV1 is not supported, it falls back to H264 seamlessly.

Where do I find downloads and documentation?

Everything technical lives on the dedicated product site: msmp.resemble.media, release notes, installation guides, the Media over QUIC protocol reference, the engine administration and API manual, and read-only demo API keys to test against the live engine.

Is the software free?

The MediaStream Engine Standard and MSPlayer Standard are free for individuals, non-profits, and organizations under 25 staff or below $1M revenue. Pro tiers cost $299/year per Engine server and $79/year per Player site, a license, not a subscription to your media. IPFS playback is included with the Engine.
